Typings from Taiping

Since I like lakes and gardens so much, this next set of pics were taken over a couple of days in Taman Tasik (Lake Gardens) in Taiping (a small city between Ipoh and Penang). To me, the old lake gardens from the 1800s with their unique avenue of dozens of huge rain-trees leaning towards the lake was well worth the visit. There is also a zoo on the far side of the lake (which we declined to visit since we’ve already been to a couple of zoos in Malaysia), and the gibbons housed in there could be heard to be having a ball from anywhere in the area. The other main attraction is nearby Bukit Larut (aka Maxwell Hill), where you get driven up a track in the back of an old land cruiser to an old-world cottage-style retreat. Yes, the British colonial-types loved their hill retreats here in the tropics.

All looks great – I like the reflections you have been playing around with lately. Will we see our intrepid explorers in any reflections I wonder? I also wonder if you have considered submitting your photographs to publications like National Geographic or Nature? Also would like to know when the coffee-table book will be released – perhaps called ‘Asia’ and released when you move on to the next continent?!

    • Thanks, I like reflecting on reflections… it seems right, somehow. Since you’re keen to see us in a photo I’ll put one up from when we stayed in an iban longhouse recently – not in the next photo series (Kuching), but the one after (Sibu). Nat Geo?! Well one day maybe, but for the moment I’m just concentrating on getting my portfolio at a high enough grade to submit to those exclusive publications. Yes, that is right – I think one coffee table book per continent/year should be do-able. I’m still taking calls from publishers, if there are any late bidders just drop me a line 😉
